Pact for the Future of Umunya The Pact for the Future of Umunya is the defining outcome of the Umunya Summit of Tomorrow held on November 23, 2024. It is a bold, community-owned declaration that commits the Umunya Professionals Association and the broader Umunya community to a shared vision of sustainable development, cultural pride, economic prosperity, and global relevance. Inspired by the United Nations Pact for the Future adopted at the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly, the Pact charts a course for how Umunya can take its place as a model community — one that integrates the global 2030 Development Agenda at the grassroots level and leaves no one behind. Seven Pillars of Action Community Development: Building synergy to globalise Umunya as a model for integrating the 2030 Agenda at the community level, addressing structural inequalities, and ensuring every voice is heard in decision-making. Economic Advancement and Poverty Eradication: Championing inclusive economic growth, food security, and the eradication of poverty through local business support, diaspora investment, and agricultural development. Science, Technology, and Digital Advancement: Harnessing technology to bridge digital divides, support education, create economic opportunities for youth, and connect Umunya to global networks. Climate Change and Sustainable Cities: Strengthening environmental stewardship through tree planting, sustainable construction, waste management, and climate-resilient infrastructure advocacy. Cultural Preservation: Recognising and protecting the rights, traditions, and ancestral knowledge of the Umunya people, while promoting cultural festivals and heritage. Diaspora Engagement: Deepening cooperation between Umunya at home and the diaspora worldwide, facilitating remittances, knowledge transfer, and business partnerships. Intergenerational Responsibility: Committing to meeting the demands of the present in a way that safeguards the needs of future generations. Call to Action The Pact for the Future of Umunya is a living commitment, renewed at each UPA summit and tested against concrete action. UPA invites every son and daughter of Umunya, at home and abroad, to embrace the Pact and become an active participant in building the future we all want to see.
