UPA Medical Outreach Camp Serves Hundreds of Umunya Residents The Umunya Professionals Association held a highly successful free medical outreach camp at the Umunya Civic Centre, with hundreds of community members receiving a comprehensive range of healthcare services at no cost. The event was organised by UPA's Health Committee under the leadership of Dr. Ifeoma Okonkwo, and brought together over 30 volunteer medical professionals including general practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, opticians, and public health specialists. Services Provided Services offered included general medical consultations; blood pressure and cardiovascular screening; diabetes and blood sugar testing; eye examinations and free distribution of reading glasses; malaria rapid diagnostic tests and treatment; maternal and child health consultations; and free dispensing of essential medicines. Health education sessions were also held throughout the day on hypertension, nutrition, hygiene, maternal health, and the importance of regular checkups. Community Response Many elderly residents, who rarely have the opportunity to see a doctor due to mobility challenges and cost, expressed deep gratitude. Several cases of undiagnosed hypertension and diabetes were identified and referred for further management. A number of children were fitted with glasses for the very first time. Looking Ahead UPA has committed to holding regular medical outreach camps in Umunya — at least twice a year — as part of its ongoing Healthcare Initiative. The association is also in discussions with government health agencies about a longer-term programme including the establishment of a permanent health facility in Umunya.
