Chief John Agulue Honoured with Community Service Award Chief John Ofodile Agulue Akunnia — the US-based indigene of Umunya whose extraordinary generosity made possible the construction of the main block complex of Saint Theresa's High School Umunya — has been presented with a prestigious Community Service Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to education and community development in Umunya. A Legacy Built in Steel and Concrete Chief Agulue's decision to fund the construction was the act of a son of Umunya responding to the cry of his community. When he received calls from teachers, parents, and community leaders describing the state of the school's infrastructure, he acted. The result is a modern, well-equipped building complex that accommodates hundreds of students. Cardinal Arinze, who presided over the dedication ceremony, described the gift as a monument to the love that a true son bears for his homeland. Chief Agulue's Acceptance Speech In a gracious acceptance speech, Chief Agulue dedicated the award to the people of Umunya — "to every parent who struggled to send a child to school, to every teacher who gave their best in difficult conditions, and to every student who dared to dream of a better future despite the obstacles in their path." He reaffirmed his commitment to continued investment in Umunya. UPA Chairman's Remarks "This is what diaspora investment looks like when it comes from the heart — not a token gesture, but a transformative gift that will change lives for generations," said Prof. Ejiofor Okechukwu. "UPA salutes Chief Agulue, and we invite every son and daughter of Umunya to ask themselves what their own gift to the community will be."
