Umunya Summit of Tomorrow — Shaping Us Today for Tomorrow On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the Umunya Professionals Association convened the Umunya Summit of Tomorrow — a landmark gathering held via Zoom that brought together professionals, community leaders, traditional rulers, and government officials from across Nigeria and the diaspora to chart a bold new course for Umunya's future. The summit was convened in direct response to the United Nations Pact for the Future, adopted at the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly, which challenged communities worldwide to align their development aspirations with the global 2030 Agenda and to build the foundations of a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous future for generations to come. Distinguished Speakers Ambassador Usman Sarki, Former Deputy Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations, delivered the keynote on Community Development and the Pact for the Future. Prof. I.G. Okafor presented on Science, Technology, and Digital Advancement in Community. Chief John O. Agulue Akunnia spoke on Economic Advancement and the Eradication of Hunger and Poverty. H.E. Ambassador Dr. Andre Thomas, Chairman and CEO of Upturn Funds Caribbean, joined as a special guest. The Pact for the Future of Umunya The centrepiece of the summit was the adoption of the Pact for the Future of Umunya — a comprehensive community declaration committing UPA and the Umunya community to action across seven pillars: community development, economic advancement and poverty eradication, science and technology, climate change and sustainable cities, cultural preservation, diaspora engagement, and intergenerational responsibility. The Pact was formally declared by Umunya's Regent, Ichie Ezeude, marking a new chapter in the community's history. Working Committees UPA has established five working committees to drive implementation: the Membership and Mobilisation Committee, the Committee on Environmental Sustainability, the Committee on Umunya Security, the Global Resources Committee, and the Economic Development Committee.
