UPA Launches Scholarship Programme for Umunya Students The Umunya Professionals Association formally launched its Scholarship and Education Fund at a ceremony held in Umunya, attended by parents, students, community leaders, school principals, and members of the UPA executive board. The launch marks a significant milestone in UPA's commitment to educational development — translating the aspirations of the Pact for the Future of Umunya into concrete support for real students. The First Cohort At the launch ceremony, the first cohort of UPA scholarship recipients was announced — a group of carefully selected students from both secondary school and tertiary levels who demonstrated exceptional academic merit and financial need. Each recipient was formally presented with their award letter and scholarship pack in the presence of their families. One tertiary student described how she had been on the verge of dropping out of her nursing programme due to inability to pay fees, and how the UPA scholarship had saved her academic career. Selection Process Applications are assessed on academic performance, financial need, personal statement, and teacher recommendations. Special consideration is given to female students in science and technology fields and to students from households affected by illness, disability, or the loss of a breadwinner. A Sustainable Fund "Education is the single most powerful investment we can make in Umunya's future. Every student we support today is a professional who will, in time, contribute their expertise and resources to this community," said UPA Chairman Prof. Okechukwu at the launch.
